SOUTH AUSTRALIAN FILM CORPORATION
A film-friendly state, South Australia has a range of magnificent locations ranging from vast deserts and the Mars-like environment of Coober Pedy (featured in Kangaroo Jack, Red Planet, Pitch Black and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome) to lush farmlands, picturesque vineyards and towns (as seen in The Boys Are Back), urban settings, dramatic coastlines and expansive coastal sand dunes featured in December Boys. Other popular locations include dry salt lakes (featured in Last Ride), and the spectacular Flinders Ranges featured in Rabbit-Proof Fence, The Tracker and Stealth.
The South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC), the oldest film body in Australia, supports the film industry through development and investment programs and by promoting South Australia as a production base. The SAFC also offers furnished production offices, art department, wardrobe spaces and sound stages. The SAFC’s Dolby Mixing Theatre caters for both feature film and television mixing. The SAFC is conveniently located 15 minutes from the city centre and Adelaide’s International Airport. Incentives for filming in South Australia include a payroll tax exemption to qualifying feature films (worth approx 4.95% of crew wages), low cost location fees, supportive councils and public services (e.g. police services).
