SCREEN NSW
New South Wales (NSW) is a dynamic destination for screen production, with outstanding infrastructure and the highest level of creative and technical expertise. Sydney, with its state-of-the-art studios, cosmopolitan lifestyle and world-renowned production and post-production houses, is the epicenter of the industry, with regional NSW playing an increasing role in hosting major film and television productions.
Locations in NSW are spectacular and diverse from the dense urban metropolis of Sydney to the dramatic beaches and cliffs along our coast and the red, dusty plains out west. The cinematic opportunities are endless. NSW has been the location of choice for feature productions such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Baz Luhrmann’s Australia, Superman Returns, Son of Mask, The Matrix, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions and Star Wars Episodes I, II and III. NSW has also hosted international television series such as Farscape and is a prominent filming destination for international television commercial production.
The primary NSW incentive, the Film & Television Industry Attraction Fund (FIAF), is based on a payroll tax rebate, but also takes into consideration the production spend undertaken in NSW. The rebate is made available after production has been completed and audited figures have been submitted. Screen NSW has an extensive locations database and provides support and advice for local and international productions in planning, pre-production and throughout the production process.
