SCREENWEST HAS A NEW LOCATION



Screenwest has moved into a new home at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) building in East Perth. The move is in line with the agency’s new strategic plan to be more connected to the industry and the ABC building is a perfect fit for the agency, industry and the ABC.

In addition to its own office space, Screenwest is establishing a creative hub within the building to provide production office facilities and co-working spaces for producers, and creatives that can be leased on a short or longer-term basis.

The screen industry will also be able to hire the purpose-built ABC film and television studios and support facilities such as make-up, costume and green rooms, props storage and sound and post-production facilities.

The agency’s strategic plan was launched in mid-October, following extensive consultation and research.

Janelle Marr, Chair, Screenwest said that the new five-year plan was built on the great work and successes of WA’s screen industry to date.

“Since the development of our previous strategic plan in 2011, there’s been an unprecedented amount of change in the industry,” Ms Marr said.

“The industry has had some terrific success in the last five years – Western Australian projects have been broadcast to national and international audiences, recognised through major industry awards and selected for some of the world’s most competitive film festivals.

“We’ve also seen a shift in our industry with the diversity of WA screen content increasing – from specialising in children’s TV and documentaries, to include factual series, feature films and online projects.

“As an agency, and as an industry, we need to be equipped to not only manage further change, but to embrace it – to be able to continue to be competitive, innovative and progressive on a national and international scale.”

Ms Marr said that the new strategic plan built on the great work undertaken under the previous strategic plan (2011-2016) whilst placing a greater emphasis on benefitting and engaging with the WA community.

“Our vision is for world-class WA stories on screen, sought after by audiences everywhere and this plan positions us well to be able to achieve this.”
