Mark Gooder Joins The Weinstein Company

 The Weinstein Company (TWC) announced today the hiring of Mark Gooder as President of Acquisitions/ Australian Operations. Mark joins TWC from Icon Productions where he served as CEO for the last six years. The announcement was made by TWC COO David Glasser.

Gooder’s new role involves the day-to-day running of the acquisitions department and leading the charge of bringing in projects for the company, from scripts through finished films. He will also attend major markets and festivals. With the addition of Gooder, TWC has elevated key, senior members of their acquisitions team. Dan Guando and Negeen Yazdi have been promoted from VP of Acquisitions to SVP of Acquisitions and VP of Acquisitions and Co-Productions to SVP of Acquisitions and Co-Productions respectively. Guando and Yazdi will continue to track domestic and international contacts, and develop relationships with filmmakers, producers and key talent. Jennifer Malloy continues with the team as Director of Acquisitions and Co-Productions. Gooder will begin working with TWC at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with Harvey and David,” said Gooder. “I think we share very similar taste in movies, and I feel I can make an important contribution to the continued growth of the company.”


Said Guando and Yazdi, “We are excited to welcome Mark to our team. We are really looking forward to working together as we continue to build an exciting slate for TWC.” Said Glasser, “Mark has a proven history for smart and strategic choices when it comes to choosing quality titles, and Dan and Negeen have been responsible for building the incredible slate we have. There is so much to come from our studio, and this team will undoubtedly lead us there.”

Since 2006, Gooder served as CEO of Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey’s L.A.-based Icon Productions. He started Icon Australia in 2000 and built the business into one of the leading independent distributors in Australia. Gooder oversaw Icon Productions’ international sales company and UK distribution company from L.A. while also continuing to run Icon in Australia. While at Icon, he acquired films such as: Gosford Park, Bend it Like Beckham, Far From Heaven, The Queen, Slumdog Millionaire, Paranormal Activity, Precious, Crash, Once, LA Vie En Rose, Diving Bell and The Butterfly, The Iron Lady, and Beasts of The Southern Wild.

Prior to TWC, Yazdi worked for Universal Pictures International and acquired titles including Troll Hunter, A Dangerous Method, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Step Up 3D and The Raven. Guando has spent 8 years with TWC and has been responsible for key acquisitions including Blue Valentine, Sarah's Key, Undefeated, Bully and The Artist. In addition to Quartet, Haute Cuisine and The Sapphires, together at TWC, they have acquired War of the Buttons, The Intouchables, Popylaire and This Must be the Place.
