Q&A WITH FOX STUDIOS’ SENIOR COMMERCIAL MANAGER, YASMINE LINTMEIJER

Yasmine Lintmeijer has been with Fox Studios Australia for seven years. As part of our spotlight on women this month, we were enthused to get together with Yasmine to discuss her favourite things about working in the film industry, at Fox and life in Sydney

Tell us a little about your Fox Studios Australia journey.

I am currently the Senior Manager, Commercial at Fox Studios Australia, the region’s largest integrated film and television production facility and industry hub.

In my role, I am primarily responsible for building, developing and managing relevant relationships of third party clients and external stakeholders.

I joined Fox Studios Australia in 2015 initially leading the Finance team, before moving into my current role in 2019.

What made you want to work in the screen industry?

It was an industry I wanted to learn more about. I have discovered how multi-faceted the screen industry is, there is a lot going on behind the camera!

What do you love about working at Fox Studios Australia?

I love seeing the passion of our team; the hard-working production crews; and learning how our Studio partner businesses are involved in creating state-of-the-art productions. We work on some of the biggest productions in the region and our partners are some of the best in the country at what they do. We have an amazing, diverse team with so many skillsets.

I love that every day is different. The environment of the studio is so unique and our campus-style environment fosters collaboration and a supportive community.

How many do you have in your team?

I lead a team of six at Fox Studios Australia. This spans Business Affairs & Legal, Production Services, IT, Customer Service, Marketing, Commercial Property & Stakeholder Management and Sustainability.

What are the passion projects you are currently working on with your team?

High production office demand across the sector has allowed me to shift some of my focus to our sustainability projects, which is a real passion of mine! We recently reached our 2030 zero waste to landfill diversion goal nine years ahead of target. I’m currently working on achieving some of our other 2030 goals such as net-zero emissions, minimising water waste and overall reducing the Studio footprint. We’re excited to announce some more achievements in this area shortly.

What are you loving about the screen industry right now?

Australia has proven itself to be a reliable, capable production hub. It’s great to see so much local talent returning home. All the major streaming services and studios are filming locally, leading to so much great content creation.

Where do you see the industry going in 2022 in Australia?

During the record year of 2020/2021, we proved just what we could achieve as an industry. I think this led to greater recognition worldwide of our capabilities. The sector is expanding around the country with new studio facilities being built, giving us the opportunity to continue growing. Coupled with the extension to the Location Incentive fund, I think the industry in Australia is only going to get bigger and better in the coming years. I’m excited to see what the remainder of 2022 has in store.

What would you tell international executives who are considering shooting in Australia?

We’re open and ready for business! Australia has world-class facilities, amazing locations, capable crew and competitive government incentives.

Tell us about the lifestyle in Sydney and how do you each spend your time when not at work?

Sydney would have to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
It is surrounded by an abundance of beautiful beaches, national parks, incredible dining experiences and amazing harbour views.

I’m fortunate to live near the coast, so I’m often drawn to the beach with family and friends and live a fairly active lifestyle when not at work.
