Ausfilm assists Australian producers to understand and connect with the international film and television market through its Ausfilm B2B Connect program.

Ausfilm provides advice and information to the Australian Government in relation to screen production, domestically and internationally and engages with other Commonwealth agencies for the exchange of information and coordination of promotional and marketing activities.

Position Summary

Under the direction and leadership of the Executive Vice President, International Production and working closely with the Director of Operations, the Director of US Production will build and maintain effective client relationships with both US and international clients, Ausfilm members and Australian talent in order to positively influence the attraction of film, television and post, digital and visual effects production to Australia. 

The Director of US Production is responsible for devising and communicating comprehensive briefs about project leads to Ausfilm members and coordinate member responses to clients.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Gather comprehensive project and client lead information and enter, maintain and update this data in real-time on the Ausfilm CRM system.
  2. Maintain regular contact with Ausfilm members through proactive interaction on a regular basis and facilitate tailored meeting schedules for members’ visits to Los Angeles.
  3. Provide thorough briefing materials regarding project leads on Ausfilm’s monthly production report teleconference to members.
  4. Undertake meetings with clients to provide information on the benefits of filming or undertaking post, digital and visual effects production in Australia.
  5. Coordinate location pitches and related deadlines. Provide regular feedback and updates to state government screen agencies on their progress in the project attraction process.
  6. Participate in the planning and support the Director of Operations in the execution of events in Los Angeles including Ausfilm Week, Partner with Australia, AFCI Locations Expo, and other high exposure events at film festivals and domestic and international conferences. 
  7. Support EVP of International Production in the development and execution of partnership opportunities for Australian filmmaking talent through Ausfilm’s B2B Connect program.
  8. Pursue new project and contact leads through the daily revision of screen-industry and trade publications.                                     
  9. Coordinate client visits to Australia as part of the Ausfilm Australia Familiarisation Program (inbound program) with the client, Ausfilm Sydney team and state government screen agencies.
  10. Continuously develop knowledge about the Australian screen industry, Australian economic and political affairs as well as Australia’s competitive position against alternative international production attraction destinations.
  11. Contribute to organisational planning and performance reporting through weekly staff meetings.

Selection Criteria – Desired Skills, Attributes and Experience

  1. Understanding of the Australian and North American film and television industry across development, production, post-production and knowledge of present and future film, television and digital trends
  2. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, verbal and written communication skills
  3. Superior organisational skills including project management
  4. Demonstrated ability to grasp new concepts and ideas
  5. Proven experience in developing, planning and executing events
  6. Knowledge of Australia and its diverse production locations is desirable.

Additional Information

The Director of US Production is based in the LA office and reports to the Executive Vice President, International Production.

Some international and domestic travel may be required in this role.
