ABS now surveying screen production companies

An important reminder: The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is surveying the screen production sector for the first time since 2006/07.If you are a business engaged in film/TV production, broadcasting or digital games development, you may have received a survey form this week.

The ABS collates the only data covering our sector as a whole. Screen Australia has worked with the ABS to develop the survey to reflect changes to the industry, including production of content for online delivery. And this year, for the first time, digital games activity has been combined with film and TV production in one survey.

The results will continue an ongoing time series that has been profiling the industry since 1993/94. This data provides essential information that not only helps to inform policy decisions at both national and state levels (such as the introduction of the Producer Offset), but also enables the ongoing monitoring of the effects of policies and industry developments.

The Government allocated special funding to Screen Australia to commission the ABS to run the survey, in order to improve the value of information for the industry.

Please look out for your survey form and take the time to complete it. Your contribution will help to ensure the availability of current, comprehensive, high-quality information about our industry.

An online help page is available to assist with completing the survey at:www.abs.gov.au/ftv
The ABS can also be contacted directly on 1800 110 791 (Freecall, excluding mobile phones).
