19 June 2026 – Australia will return to the Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa) in June with a coordinated national presence for the second consecutive year, showcasing the creativity, expertise and global ambition of the country’s animation sector.
Led by Ausfilm in partnership with Screen NSW, VicScreen, Screen Queensland, Screenwest, South Australian Film Corporation, Screen Canberra, Screen Tasmania and Screen Australia, Animation Australia will bring together more than 40 Australian companies and practitioners. Proudly supported by Austrade’s Accessing New Markets Initiative, the delegation showcases the depth of Australia’s animation industry while creating opportunities for international collaboration, co-production and business development.
Australian animation continues to gain recognition on the world stage, with recent successes including Memoir of a Snail (Annecy Best Feature winner and Oscar nominee), Lesbian Space Princess (Berlinale Teddy Award winner), and Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, expanding the world of Netflix’s global hit series. This year, three Australian projects have been selected for Annecy’s official competition programs: Smokedog (Chop Studio) in the WTF program, Oldies of the Coast (Clarence Fennessy) in Graduation Films, and The World Came Flooding In (Film Camp) in Immersive Works.
The delegation includes a diverse mix of studios and companies from across Australia such as Cosmic Dino (The Pout-Pout Fish), Flying Bark (Zac Power), ILM (Transformers One), Karu-Karu (Wishes), Kreiworks (Nina & Olga), MaxFoo (Suzie Q), Princess Pictures/Princess Bento (Smiling Friends) and Turbo Chook (After All).
Ausfilm CEO Kate Marks said Annecy is an invaluable opportunity to celebrate Australian animation, strengthen international partnerships and expand opportunities for the sector globally.
“We’re excited to be back at Annecy with a united Australian presence that reflects the incredible momentum across our animation sector.
“Australian studios are not only creating distinctive original stories that are finding audiences around the world but are also trusted partners on some of the biggest international productions. From beloved homegrown hits like Bluey to world-class work for major studios and streamers, Australian animation is demonstrating both creative excellence and production capability.
“Mifa provides a fantastic opportunity to engage with Australia’s treaty co-production partners, deepen cultural and commercial relationships, and create new pathways for Australian businesses and creators internationally. It also allows us to showcase the value Australia offers international partners, including our competitive 30% Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Offset.
“We’re grateful for the support of Austrade’s Accessing New Markets Initiative, which has helped strengthen Australia’s presence at Annecy and create new opportunities for our animation sector to grow, connect and diversify in international markets.”
