FILM VICTORIA ANNOUNCES NEW VICTORIAN SCREEN INCENTIVE – AU$33.8 MILLION

With cameras rolling around Melbourne, Victoria – the Victorian Government has announced a major financial boost for the Victorian screen industry which is ready to capitalise on the huge global demand for screen content.

This record investment of AU$33.8 million in Victorian screen productions and programs announced by the Minister for Creative Industries Danny Pearson, will attract more international and interstate screen projects through a new Victorian Screen Incentive and deliver an increased investment for local content development, skills and screen productions including digital games.

The Victorian Screen Incentive will target the attraction of physical productions, visual effects, animation, post-production and, for the first time, digital games projects to be made in Victoria which is Australia’s centre for creativity and digital innovation.

The Victorian Screen Incentive provides a grant of up to 10 per cent on qualifying production expenditure in Victoria. It also sees the lowering of the post-production threshold which will attract more Australian projects to undertake post-production in Victoria.

“The Victorian Screen Incentive will capture an increased share of the significant global growth that the screened entertainment industry is experiencing.” Film Victoria Chief Executive Officer, Caroline Pitcher

The vast majority of these investments will be committed prior to 30 June 2021, providing significant immediate stimulus, part of which will more than double Film Victoria’s investment in the development of locally generated digital games.
