NSW PRODUCTION DESIGNERS VIE FOR AWARDS SUCCESS

Two of Australia’s best production designers – Fiona Crombie is nominated for an Oscar® and both Fiona and Karen Murphy are nominated in the upcoming 23rd annual 2019 Art Directors Guild Awards.

Fiona Crombie’s Art Directors Guild Award nomination is for Excellence in Production Design for a Period Feature Film for her work on The Favourite, against competition from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, Bohemian Rhapsody, First Man and Roma.

Fiona is also nominated for an Academy Award® for Production Design on The Favourite together with Alice Felton (Set Decoration), competing against Black PantherFirst ManMary Poppins Returns and Roma.

Fiona is a NIDA graduate who has built a solid reputation working across theatre, TV and film set and costume design, including work on Macbeth, Una, Mary Magdalene, Top of the Lake and the Sydney-based Truth. Her work on The Favourite recently took the Best Production Design award at the British Independent Film Awards 2018 and she is also in the running for a BAFTA in 2019 for her work on the production. Her work will next be seen in director David Michôd’s The King, starring Timothée Chalamet, Joel Edgerton and Ben Mendelsohn.

Karen Murphy’s Art Directors Guild Award nomination is for Excellence in Production Design for a Contemporary Feature Film for her work on A Star Is Born, against competition from A Quiet Place, Crazy Rich Asians, Mission: Impossible – Fallout and Welcome to Marwen.

Karen is a multi-award-winning production designer known for her work with Baz Luhrmann on both The Great Gatsby and Netflix series The Get Down along with further experience on The Light Between Oceans and It Comes at Night. In addition, she was Assistant Art Director on Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith,  Matrix Revolutions and The Matrix Reloaded. Her work will next be seen in director Justin Kurzel’s The True History of the Kelly Gang, starring Nicholas Hoult, Charlie Hunnam and Russell Crowe.

Both Fiona and Karen hail from New South Wales.
