WHAT’S HAPPENING IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA

I Am Woman set to open Toronto Film Festival

Unjoo Moon’s debut feature I Am Woman has just wrapped sound mixing at the South Australian Film Corporation’s Adelaide Studios ahead of its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival next month.

A biopic about legendary singer Helen Reddy, whose song I Am Woman (Hear Me Roar) became an international anthem for feminists in the 1970s, I Am Woman stars Adelaide actress Tilda Cobham-Hervey (Hotel Mumbai) in the lead role, and is produced by Moon together with Rosemary Blight (The Sapphires, Top End Wedding).

The film will screen at TIFF as the Special Presentations opening night film.

More stars step into the ring for Mortal Kombat

More key roles have been announced for New Line Cinema’s highly-anticipated action thriller Mortal Kombat, shooting in South Australia in September.

Mehcad Brooks (Supergirl), Tadanobu Asano (Thor: Ragnarok), Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) and Australian newcomer Sisi Stringer are all stepping into the ring in the roles of Jax, Raiden, Liu Kang and Mileena. They join Indonesian actor and martial artist Joe Taslim (The Fast and the Furious 6, The Night Comes for Us), already announced for the role of Sub-Zero.

Australian casting for the film is being handled by South Australian agency Heesom Casting, based at Adelaide Studios where the production is taking place, with calls out now for key supporting roles and 1,500 extras.

Mortal Kombat is being directed by award-winning commercial filmmaker Simon McQuoid in his feature directorial debut, with James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring films) as producer.
