Three of Hollywood’s hottest young stars, Saoirse Ronan (Little Women), Aaron Pierre (The Underground Railroad) and Paul Mescal (Normal People), are in Melbourne right now to film Amazon Studios’ epic new production Foe.

Award-winning local filmmaker Garth Davis is directing the sci-fi psychological thriller, which is based on the novel of the same name by Ian Reid. Davis is a co-writer of the adaptation alongside Reid.

Davis’ debut feature, Lion, starring Nicole Kidman, Dev Patel and Rooney Mara, was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and he received an Emmy nomination for co-directing the critically acclaimed television series Top of the Lake alongside Jane Campion.

Winton Wetlands in northeast Victoria was one of the key locations in Justin Kurzel’s True History of the Kelly Gang, starring Russell Crowe. Foe is also filming at Docklands Studios Melbourne, the city’s state-of-the-art studios, located on the doorstep of downtown Melbourne.

The highly-anticipated feature film was attracted to Australia through the Australian Government’s Producer Offset program and to Victoria through the Victorian Screen Incentive and Regional Location Assistance Fund.

Producers on the project include Kerry Kohansky-Roberts on behalf of AC Studios, Garth Davis for I Am That, and Emile Sherman and Iain Canning for See-Saw Films. Executive producers include Ian Reid, and I Am That’s Samantha Lang. Libby Sharpe will co-produce for I Am That and See-Saw Films.

Foe is one of many high-profile projects currently underway in Melbourne and regional Victoria.

Sarah Snook is starring in horror/thriller Run Rabbit Run following her recent Golden Globe Award win for Succession, while The Dressmaker director Jocelyn Moorhouse is back in Victoria filming Savage River, a gripping crime drama series with Golden Globe-nominee Katherine Langford (Thirteen Reasons Why, Knives Out).

The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is gearing up to film Better Man, a biopic on British pop star Robbie Williams and NBC’s hit sci-fi series La Brea is returning to Melbourne to shoot its blockbuster second season.
