CREATE NSW-SUPPORTED FILMS PART OF AUSTRALIAN RECORD-BREAKING SUNDANCE 2019 LINE-UP

Australian-made features Little Monsters, Judy and Punch and I Am Mother were all proudly supported by Create NSW  and are screening at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.

Also screening are Animals, Top End Wedding and Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale, a total of six Australian feature films have screened at the festival this year, breaking the record of Australian titles set in 1997.

What’s more, all six feature female protagonists and three are directed by women.

Little Monsters

In addition, to Create NSW funding support, NSW Ausfilm members Big Bang Sound Design delivered sound post-production on Little Monsters, Fox Studios Australia supplied production facilities including production offices and art department workshops, Fox Lighting supplied lighting equipment and Panavision supplied camera equipment.

Little Monsters is a film dedicated to all the kindergarten teachers who motivate children to learn, instil them with confidence and stop them from being devoured by zombies and stars Lupita Nyong’o, Josh Gad and Alexander England. Little Monsters producers are Jodi Matterson, Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, Keith Calder, Jessica Calder. The production company is Made Up Stories. Principal production investment from Screen Australia in association with Snoot Entertainment. Financed with support from Create NSW.

Judy and Punch

NSW post-production studio Spectrum Films delivered post-production on Judy and Punch. 

In Seaside (nowhere near the sea), puppeteers Judy and Punch are trying to resurrect their marionette show in an anarchic town on the brink of mob rule. Stars Mia Wasikowska and Damon Herriman. Producers are Michele Bennett, Nash Edgerton, Danny Gabai in A Seaside Productions film. Principal production investment from Vice Studios and Screen Australia, in association with Film Victoria. Financed with support from Create NSW.

I Am Mother

NSW based Fin were the principal vendor for VFX on I Am Mother, completing 220 shots for the film. I am Mother was also supported by other Ausfilm members across other Australian states. Read more here.

In the wake of humanity’s extinction, a teenage girl (Clara Rugaard) is raised by a robot (voiced by Rose Byrne) designed to repopulate the earth. But their unique bond is threatened when an inexplicable stranger (Hilary Swank) arrives with alarming news.
